|(2019),Masterthesis: Niet de Kunst Maar De Sukkel die konst*

Sean Cornelisse, alumni of finished Temporary Programme Reinventing Daily Life (2016-2018), presented the results of his research in the exhibition, Gepaard met Oranje supported with his thesis; Niet de kunst maar de sukkel die konsT, at Pakhuis Wilhelmina Losdok, from 21-23 June 2019.
He explains how art could play a more prominent role in our daily lives that automatically includes the so called 'absent spectator' without giving in on quality and autonomy. By stating that the municipal cleaning services are in essence artists and vice versa.
With this acknowledgement he contributes to the shift of a new collective art-consciousness.

Research Question:
Within the Master's program 'Reinventing Daily Life' (2016-2018), the research question was: "How can art play a more prominent role in our everyday lives? And in doing so, create the opportunity to engage an untapped audience without compromising autonomy and quality."
To address the research question, the proposition is made to consider everyday life and everything observable within it as art, in harmony with the invisible mechanisms and the interaction of internal and external processes. This perspective suggests that society is characterized by conscious and unconscious artistry.
This study explores how art can shed new light on existing reality and to what extent a new reality can be created, which may have been previously explored. The principles of John Cage's "Art=Life=Work" and Joseph Beuys' notion that "everybody is an artist" and "the society is the most important work of art to be realized" (Beuys, year) are considered. Additionally, Constant's expressions in an interview with Simon Vinkenoog (year) regarding New Babylon, where the city is seen as a collective living space, are examined.
The investigation also draws inspiration from Johan Huizinga's concept of "homo ludens" as a creative being, participating actively in the game (Huizinga, year). Furthermore, the work "Socle du Monde" by Piero Manzoni is explored as an example of elevating humanity to the realm of art (Manzoni, year).
To develop a more concrete application tailored to the research question, a critical examination of the current status quo is conducted. The study aims to formulate a thought system and employ intertextual intervals to progress towards concrete answers and examples.
